Glossary

I will populate this page as I come across words I think need identifying / defining.  That way it won’t be too overwhelming at first.  – I know, I am such a nice guy.

Address – normally this is the website address – what you type into the browser address bar to reach a site.  Similar to a URL or Domain.

Affiliate Marketing – this is normally considered to be the online salesman type of endeavor.  You as a affiliate are selling a product to customers.  When you see the ads on websites, that is a form of affiliate marketing.  There are many flavors of affiliate marketing, and affiliate networks compile advertisers and layout the rules of what that advertiser allows in terms of promotion.

Deep – a website is deep if it has a lot of pages.  This can either be organized pages within pages (like you see some of my pages are under other category headings), or it can simply be a list of pages (like on www.HaHaShirtShop.com – they have a list of each of the categories of shirts they offer).

Domain – similar to a URL or website address.  A domain is more of the house and the URL is the address to the house.  The domain also includes email address, ftp folders, and much more.

HTML / XHTML – These are accroynms for a type of code that is most prevailent on websites.  They are programming languages.

Landing Page - this is the type of website you see that is pitching some product.  It is usually only a one page website and has links to click on, or forms to fill out for you to buy the product.  Landing pages are basically like flyers or brochures and are trying to get you to purchase some product.

Monetize – to apply a money making application

Servers – basically a computer or series of computer that store and route traffic on the internet.  Servers are also used in businesses to store and route internal information.

URL - same thing as a website address.  Typically the URL is the whole thing like http://www.Mitchendise.com  You will notice that I capitalized the M.  The home page does not care about capitalization and the browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox) will automatically input it into lowercase.  You can not do this with specific attachments or other pages on the site for the most part those are all case sensitive.
